Christmas Greetings! Some of you are clapping excitedly right now because you’ve already been planning your Christmas décor, and others are sneering at me, your pumpkin spice lattes firmly clenched in your hands. No matter which end of that spectrum you fall on, you may have noticed fewer articles and audio recordings on this site recently, and that’s been for an excellent reason! I haven’t been sick or bogged down with life, but I have been busy…busy working on something that is really exciting, at least to this author, that is!
Last Christmas, I gave you my heart. Sorry…that wasn’t where I was going. But now you and I are both singing. Anyway, last Christmas, my cousin said that all he really wanted for Christmas was a Hallmark movie where the heroine of the tale solves a murder. That really, really got my imagination pumping! Almost immediately, I was struck with the idea of a story inspired by Dickens. Yes, I know that we have seen a million and one remakes of the classic story, “A Christmas Carol,” but I could not think of a single one like the one I had in mind. And so, I started writing.
Dickens wrote a short story less than thirty thousand words in length, so the week before Christmas, I set out to write something quite short indeed. I imagined that I would end up with a finished product between fifteen and twenty thousand words long. I also intended to write one stave, what he called chapters in this work, per day. Guess how many days I lasted? I wrote three staves in three days before my schedule made me abandon it, which was a pretty hefty bummer. Still, I was impressed with what I’d written so far! I ignored that work for a few months until life had settled back down a bit, then dove back in with gusto. Many, many words were written and deleted. Edits stressed me out and elated me, depending on the day. To my surprise, I ended up with a work about one thousand words shy of Dickens’ original piece, which is quite humbling, to tell the truth. My husband and I sat down to create a cover for my finished piece, which really just looked like me giving him scattered bits of ideas, and his creativity shining through to create four different covers, each one more fantastic than the last, until we finally had a masterpiece! Finally, we were ready to typeset, format, and submit to a printer. I now proudly present to you: “A Christmas Killer.”

Marlene was dead: to begin with.
In this thrilling reimagining of Charles Dickens’ classic, “A Christmas Carol,” Seven years ago, Eve’s world was shattered when her best friend Marlene was murdered on Christmas Eve. Eve has since lived a life overshadowed by grief, anger, and unanswered questions, pushing away anyone who loves her.
As Christmas Eve unfolds, Eve is visited by three Spirits. Each Spirit guides her through the past, present, and future, revealing both hidden truths and dark secrets. With their help, Eve must piece together the clues that could solve her friend’s murder and confront the shadows lurking in her own heart.
Can Eve solve the mystery of Marlene’s death? Or will the killer remain forever shrouded by the mists of time?
