A new novel by Mary Lay debuted on October 1, and I have recently had the pleasure to read this piece for myself! A 20th century twist on a 19th century classic, "A Christmas With the Carols" brings the familiar story Ebeneezer Scrooge to 1930's Glasgow. Elspeth Scobie must face her own sadness and harsh ways during a long night of disturbed slumber. Author Mary Lay introduces us to supporting characters resembling the beloved Cratchit family in ways we have not read them previously; endearing the values and kindness of those who impact Elspeth--this tale's Scrooge--even more than before!

Back Matter:

"Elspeth Scobie is not a happy woman. Her tenants are late with their rents, and her assistant is leaving to go home to the islands and get married. For Elspeth, money is not to be spent on wasteful things such as repairs, coal, weddings and certainly not Christmas! Will a night of disturbed sleep change her mind?

This re-telling of Dickens' A Christmas Carol, set in Glasgow in the 1930s, brings a refreshing twist to a familiar tale."

If "A Christmas Carol" is always a favorite read during your holiday season, I highly recommend that you add "A Christmas With the Carols" to your TBR this year! Witnessing a Scrooge become beloved to all is one of the coziest parts of Christmas, after all! This delightful read is available on Amazon in both paperback and Kindle editions, as well as from Mary Lay's site were you can find a signed copy available for purchase in the UK!

I hope that you find plenty of time to read your long, long list of holiday books this season, and that this one is among them!
